Arts On Referral, Warwickshire

Arts Connect are working in partnership with Barnardo’s to deliver two Arts on Referral Programmes. These are taking place across Warwickshire and the work has been commissioned by Warwickshire County Council.

We are running two programmes, one for children and young people and one for parents and carers of infants who are Warwickshire residents.

The programmes are specifically designed to support participants who are experiencing mild to moderate health challenges. and could involve:

  • For children and young people (7-17):
    Mild anxiety & depression; stress; social isolation; low self-esteem; long term illness / health conditions or chronic pain; engaging in other health behaviour changes; difficult life changes or challenges such as parental separation or bullying; unaccompanied asylum-seeking children; looked after children; children at risk of self-harm/self-harming; a learning disability or a diagnosis of autism or young carers.
  • For Parents/Carers with infants (0-2 years)
    Mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression; postnatal depression; stress; loneliness and/or social isolation; low self-esteem. Parents exposed to stressors such as: poor quality, or temporary, accommodation; unemployment/debt; lone parenthood/away from family support network; having one or more dependent children with behavioural difficulties; bereavement; domestic abuse; substance abuse.

Key Elements of the programme

We are planning to deliver 48 courses for children and young people. Each Course will offer six sessions and will be led by a team of local artists and a Barnardos’ Project Worker. Each course will take place over a period of 6 weeks (one session per week )

We are planning to deliver 9 courses for Parents & Carers with Infants. Each Course will offer six sessions and will be led by a team of local artists and a Barnardo’s’ Project Worker. Each course will take place over a period of 6 weeks (one session per week)

Can I bring my infant with me? 

Yes! the course is designed for parents and carers to attend with their infant and spend time with your child in creative play and exploration. We will be piloting separate session/s just for parents/carers that will be more specifically around an art form skill. There will also be course/s specifically for anti-natal parent/s who are referred.
